Student Loan Relief Has Been Extended Through January 2022. What Does This Mean for Employers?

In March of 2020, Congress passed the CARES Act, which helped relieve borrowers from making payments on their federal loans. The student loan forbearance has been extended a few times with the most recent extension going through January of 2022. With nearly 42 million Americans having to resume their federal loan payments beginning in February, how can employers help? Perhaps more organizations will begin to utilize the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021 which allows employers to make tax-free payments towards their employees' student debt.
