How to Design an Unlimited PTO Policy Employees Will Actually Use

Burnout is running ramped through many organizations. Could unlimited PTO be the answer? While there are many benefits to unlimited PTO it doesn't come without its own struggles. A study conducted by HR software company Namely, found that employees, within organizations offering unlimited PTO, only took 13 days off annually, while those in the traditional PTO setting took 15 days off annually. Company culture plays a large role in the efficacy of unlimited PTO policies and leaders leading by example, taking time off and fully disconnecting from their work, may be one of the best ways to set expectations. Additionally, there are constraints around this policy to ensure work is still being completed and that the company is moving forward. Will unlimited PTO be the benefit of the future or will we see organizations stick with the traditional PTO model?
