When it comes to wellbeing, walking 5,000 steps a day can pay big dividends. A recent actuarial analysis of 2,700 individuals shows that combining comprehensive screening, biometric outcomes and activity can significantly improve employee wellbeing. The study, conducted by CHC Wellbeing, shows that participants who had an initial wellbeing assessment, plus engaged in the CHC Walking Program, had significant improvement in key measures including Metabolic Syndrome, Diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. Here are the results:
- By walking 5,000 steps per day, participants with Metabolic Syndrome dropped an average of 1 full risk level.
- High-risk participants who engaged throughout the year lost 7 lbs, while non-participating individuals gained weight.
- Diabetic participants lowered Glucose levels on average 24.9 mg/dl, while non-participant levels raised 18.2 mg/dl.
- 78% of participants with high blood pressure, dropped to medium risk levels.
- LDL decreased 50% more among participants than non-participants.
